Awesome Alberta: Elbow Falls is a truly refreshing sight (PHOTOS)

Aug 29 2019, 5:10 pm

Don’t underestimate the Elbow Falls just because they’re not as big as the Niagara Falls.

If you’ve only got around a half-day to spare while exploring Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, make sure you visit this small natural wonder.

Few people come to visit so it’s a good place for anyone who might want a quiet place to relax and simply enjoy the scenery.

Although a flood in 2013 devastated many homes and changed the way the riverbank now looks, it’s still a stunning sight to behold.

For your own safety, please make sure you are prepared before heading out on your next adventure. Information on how to prepare for your trip and stay safe while on your hike is available from Albertaparks.ca and AdventureSmart. Parks Canada visitor guidelines are available here. Always remember to leave no trace, pack out what you pack in, stick to designated trails, and refrain from feeding wildlife — and please note that irresponsibly-taken selfies (even if they look great for the ‘gram) can be fatal

Where is it?

It’s about 20 mins from Bragg Creek and just southwest of Calgary, which means you can visit two places in one go.

How do you get there?

It’ll take around an hour for you to drive to see these beautiful falls from Calgary.

All you have to do is take the Trans-Canada Highway to AB-66 in Rocky View County before turning right onto AB-66 W.

What’s there?

The hike is beginner-friendly and gives you some spectacular views as you make your way to the falls. There are also some nice spots to set up a small picnic with your friends and family on the ground (no picnic facilities due to the floods).

It’s also nice to take off your shoes and dip your feet in.
