Alberta lottery winner plans to buy a McDonald's burger with prize money

An Alberta lottery winner is looking forward to a tasty treat after claiming his massive windfall.

Rene Drouin says he will forever remember the sound the lottery terminal makes when a prize is won ā€“ a sound he loves to hear.

The Airdrie resident won $100,000 on his Lotto Max and Extra ticket, purchased from London Drugs at 110-2781 Main Street South in Airdrie.

ā€œI brought my ticket to the store and scanned it,ā€ Drouin said.

ā€œThe machine started making a sound like ringing bells ā€“ my wife and I were shocked!ā€

He won his $100,000 prize by matching the last six digits of the Extra number drawn on September 12.

ā€œWe were looking at the screen, and my wife said, ā€˜Oh, that sounds good!ā€™ā€ he continued. ā€œIt really did sound good!ā€

Drouin said he and his wife have one major plan for their recent windfall. After that, perhaps a little treat, he continued.

ā€œWeā€™re going to pay off our mortgage,ā€ he said. ā€œIf thereā€™s anything left after that, maybe weā€™ll go to Mcdonald’s to get a hamburger.ā€

If you have any lotto tickets lying around, be sure to check them, as there could be another Alberta lottery winner! A ticket purchased somewhere in Calgary won $250,000 on the January 13 Lotto Max and Extra draw earlier this year.

Winners have one year to claim their prize.
