"Developmentally disabled" woman shot with paintball gun outside her home

May 19 2020, 11:27 pm

Police in Abbotsford are investigating after a woman was shot by a paintball gun while outside her home on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the 32-year-old victim – who police only identified as Emily – was sitting in her front driveway on Glenn Mountain Drive “enjoying the sunshine,” when sometime between 12:30 pm and 1 pm, “an unknown person who may have been travelling in a vehicle shot at and hit Emily in the upper leg with a paintball.” The incident left Emily with a minor red mark on her leg.

Noting that Emily is “developmentally disabled,” police said she is non-verbal and “cannot explain what happened or who assaulted her.”

Her mother, Diane, has expressed disappointment in the incident, particularly that “this would happen near our home.”

Luckily, she said, “neither Emily, nor anyone else in our neighbourhood, was badly injured.”

Diane added that since the assault, “so many community members have come forward to express their care and concern for Emily.”

Now, as the investigation continues, police are asking anyone who witness or has information about this incident to contact them at 604-859-5225.
