Driver assaulted with knife during road rage incident near Highway 1 in Abbotsford

Abbotsford police are looking for witnesses as they investigate an alleged incident of road rage involving a stabbing, they say took place last Wednesday.

In a release on Tuesday, police said that at approximately 4 pm on May 13, a silver Chevrolet Camaro was observed “driving erratically,” while heading eastbound on North Parallel from Atkinson Road. The vehicle was also observed travelling at a “high rate of speed” as it passed “multiple” vehicles, before travelling over the highway overpass at No. 3 Road and pulling over on the westbound Highway 1 onramp.

At that point, police said two other vehicles pulled up beside the Camaro and the occupants “engaged in a verbal altercation.”

Another witness to the erratic driving behaviour “pulled up behind the vehicles and got out to talk to the Camaro driver about the incident,” said police. “As he approached the Camaro, the Camaro’s driver exited the vehicle and, without provocation, assaulted this witness.”

The witness “raised his arms in self-defence and was able to yield off multiple swings,” before the driver suddenly got into the Camaro and left the scene.

It was then that the witness noticed his sleeve was cut open and he was bleeding from a deep laceration to his elbow. He also observed a black lock-blade knife on the ground where he had been attacked.

Now, police are asking anyone who witnessed – or has information (including CCTV or dashcam footage) –regarding this incident, to contact Abbotsford Police at 604-859-5225.
