Man demanded sexual acts from woman during assault in park: Surrey RCMP

Surrey RCMP are asking for the public’s help in finding and identifying a suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman while she was walking in a park recently.

In a release issued on Monday, Surrey RCMP said the incident took place on February 22, at approximately 9:40 pm.

The woman was walking in West Newton Community Park, when the suspect grabbed her from behind.

He then allegedly threatened the woman and “demanded sexual acts,” police said. “The woman was able to escape the man and was physically unharmed.”

Now, investigators from Surrey RCMP’s Special Victims Unit have taken conduct of the file and are asking for the public’s assistance to identify the suspect in this incident.

The suspect is described as a South Asian male, in his 20s, with a medium build, and approximately 5’7” tall. He was described as having a chubby face with a small beard. At the time of the assault he was wearing a wool hat and a dark jacket.

“Investigators also believe there were people in the park at the time of the incident and are appealing for those people to come forward with any information they have,” police added.
