Police have identified the victim of the city’s third homicide of 2020.

On Sunday, January 19, 2020, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) found a 45-year-old woman dead inside her Gastown apartment. At that time, police announced that she was found under suspicious circumstances and that the incident was being investigated as a homicide.

The victim has since been identified as 45-year-old Tonya Hyer of Vancouver.

The VPD says in an emailed statement that officers responded to a call from paramedics at 112 Water Street at approximately 1:30 am on that night.

“The victim had been injured but paramedics were unable to resuscitate her,” says police.

At this point in time, no arrests have been made. Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.

“Investigators believe there are people in the community who know Hyer and have information surrounding her death,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD. “Any piece of information, no matter how small, can help.”

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact homicide detectives at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
