A Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officer has been charged with sexual assault, after an alleged incident in Whistler this past summer.

According to Squamish RCMP, the investigation began on July 29, when police were made aware of the incident, which they said took place “a few days” before they were notified.

During the course of the investigation, “it was learned that the subject of the complaint was a serving Vancouver Police Department member,” police said in a release.

Charged in the case is 51-year-old Surrey resident, Jagraj Roger Berar.

As for the circumstances surrounding what transpired, the RCMP said they believe “this was an isolated incident involving persons known to each other.”

They also don’t believe the allegations “are related to his employment as a police officer.”

As this is now before the courts, police said no further details will be released.
