After a 41-year-old Vancouver man was fatally stabbed in the city’s downtown area late last month, police said they have now arrested and charged a suspect in connection with the case.

On July 27, police responded to a 911 call for a man who had been stabbed outside of the Overdose Prevention Site at St. Paul’s Hospital. The victim, identified as Thomus Donaghy, was rushed to hospital but later died of his injuries.

After appealing to the public for help in the case, police identified Maximus Hayes as a suspect and arrested him in North Vancouver on August 13, and the charge was approved by the BC Prosecution service.

Hayes, a 23-year-old Victoria resident, has now been charged with one count of manslaughter for the death of Donaghy.

Hayes is now in custody, and the homicide is Vancouver’s ninth of the year.
