Victoria, B.C., has been named the best small city in the world for the fourth year in a row, with the destination beating out some tough competition from across the globe.

The honour comes from Condé Nast Traveller‘s latest look at the best cities in the world, part of the 39th annual Readers’ Choice Awards.

According to CN Traveller, readers cast almost 800,000 votes in the ranking of the planet’s top travel experiences. And Victoria left a mark on globetrotters.

“A popular day trip from Vancouver, British Columbia’s capital city deserves a standalone visit,” reads the CN Traveller write-up.

“Arrive via one of the world’s most scenic ferry rides across Swartz Bay and check in to the bucket list-worthy Fairmont Empress, where the Fairmont Gold rooms include access to a private waterfront lounge.”

The B.C. destination beat out some major world cities, including San Sebastián, Spain, and Venice, Italy.

The travel publication also paid tribute to Victoria’s reputation as the most British town in Canada, adding that many restaurants and hotels offer a proper high tea.

For rural travellers visiting the B.C. destination, CN recommends disconnecting in the ancient forest with a Vancouver Island road trip.

“To be recognized by travellers from around the world for a fourth consecutive year is both humbling and inspiring,” said Paul Nursey, CEO of Destination Greater Victoria, in a release.

“This honour speaks to the strength of Greater Victoria‘s global reputation, and the collective efforts of our tourism industry, businesses, community partners, and residents who help make this destination so memorable.”

Several B.C. hotels were also honoured in the 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, including a number of accommodations in the Greater Victoria area.
