What: The 42nd annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival (VFMF)  brings together some of the best contemporary folk and roots music artists from around the globe. Attracting upwards of 40,000 people each year, the festival gives attendees the chance to experience the music and culture of 60 international, national, and local acts. Artists on the roster this year include Sam Roberts Band, Corb Lund and the Hamiltones, and Larkin Poe.

Attendees can also enjoy food from tasty vendors at Pete’s Eats, children’s activities in the Little Folks Village, and discover crafty treasures in the Artisan Market and Folk Bazaar.

Friday Night Live/Hastings Racecourse and Casino

What: Hastings Racecourse will be hosting its exhilarating Friday Night Live series from July 19 to September 6, starting at 7 pm every Friday. This year, every Friday Night Live event will feature a cool playlist with their resident DJs spinning your favourite tracks all night long with a great mix of Hip Hop, R&B, Old School, Reggaeton, Top 40, EDM Music, and more.

As well as the amazing music and electric atmosphere, you can catch races happening under the stars. There’s also going to be outdoor beer tents with a great selection of highballs, your favourite beers on tap, as well as food trucks on site. Don’t forget the legendary Silks Buffet which offers the most incredible views of the racecourse and the mountains in the backdrop.

What: Aldergrove Fair Days have been running for 107 years. Highlights include a Show ‘n Shine, live entertainment, midway rides and games, beer garden and food vendors, and more. Loverboy will also be performing on Saturday night.

What: Vancouver’s most stylish day of horse racing, The Deighton Cup is returning to the city for its 11 year — and it’s better than ever. The fan favourite event — happening July 20 at Hastings Racecourse — is so much more than racing. This day at the races for a younger generation is a mashup of cocktails, music art and style. What: The first-ever CAN Relay 4 Autism invites families, supporters and the general public to walk, run or wheel around the Swangard Stadium track in support of Canucks Autism Network. The Brick Bar – Vancouver

What: The Brick Bar, the first bar of its kind, is happening at The Anza Club. The bar will consist of over one million blocks, and will feature sculptures made completely from LEGO bricks. When you stop in, you’ll be able to partake in building competitions (for prizes), a table tennis competition (played on a LEGO built table with over 22,000 bricks), and so much more. There will also be an Instagram-worthy menu, with a “Brick Burger” and cocktails.

In addition to the pre-made sculptures, you’ll be able to assemble your own creations too. Plus, there will be local DJs, bartenders, and LEGO-themed eats. Tickets are sold on a first-come-first-serve basis, and extremely limited, so get them while you can.

Picnic in the Park 2019

What: Picnic in the Park is back in Vancouver, and is being hosted this year by Josh Rimer, Vancouver’s very own Canadian gay role model — who won Mr. Gay Canada 2019. Everyone is welcome at this event, especially families. Attendees can grab a post-event drink at the new Stanley Park Brewing Brewpub, bring a picnic or treat themselves at one of the several amazing food trucks serving up an array of dishes and desserts with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options.

The event will feature music by Westcoast Harmony Chorus and KELLE, as well as drag performances curated by Tuck Entertainment Inc. Activities at Picnic in the Park 2019 include free, outdoor yoga classes at 9:15 am and 11:10 am, relay races, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, watermelon eating contest, giant rainbow parachute, three legged race, booths with crafts, button making and so much more.

Port Moody Rotary Ribfest 2019

What: The fifth annual celebration of all things BBQ meat will be kicking off on July 19 and running until July 21 at Rocky Point Park.  This three-day event runs from 11 am to 9:30 pm (9 pm on the 21) and will feature seven rib vendors, music, a corn hut, and more. There will also be a family-friendly beer garden with 6oo seats, along with an adults-only beer garden with room for 1,100 thirsty rib-lovers.

Definitely Dali Exhibition

What: Chali-Rosso Art Gallery’s annual Definitely Dali exhibition is back for the summer. Enjoy original artwork by the great Spanish Surrealist master, every single day until the end of September. Plus visit the monumental Salvador Dali sculptures they have positioned in the two public, outdoor spaces: Dalinian Dancer at the corner of Alberni and Thurlow St., and Space Venus at LOT 19, at the foot of Hornby St. 2 W. Big Day BBQ

What: Big Day BBQ events pop up all over Vancouver, but you’ll definitely want to be at this one at Fraser Common Farm in Langley. Food up for grabs will include a whole hog, chicken, and brisket. You can also enjoy a farm tour or play a game of corn hole before you down dessert from the Pie Shoppe. What: Celebrating its 15th anniversary, Pride Run & Walk is an annual event hosted by the Vancouver Frontrunners, a local LGBTQ2+ running and walking club. Offering a 10km running course and a 5km running or walking course, this event has something for everyone, regardless of your abilities.

Having raised over $100,000 since the event’s inception, 100 per cent of the profit and proceeds are donated directly to local community organizations who are making a big difference.

Alberto Giacometti: A Line Through Time

What: This unique exhibition is focused on the art of Alberto Giacometti, renowned in the twentieth century for his sculpture, painting, drawing and design. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to examine the breadth of his practice and to see Giacometti’s place among his contemporaries in Paris and London in the post-war period.
