What: Dine Out Vancouver is back for its 17th year, bringing with it a crowded calendar of food events, with hundreds of restaurants participating in this year’s exciting event. Taking place from January 18 through February 3, 2019, the popular annual fest features hundreds of restaurants, each offering multi-course dinners at $20, $30 or $40 (plus tax, gratuity and beverages).

Jest Ladies Comedy – Nic Enright-Morin

What: Fraser Valley Comedy presents Jest Ladies Comedy hosted by Nic Enright-Morin. Nic Enright-Morin is a freelance writer, editor and comic who performs comedy all over BC, as well as in the UK. She also wrote and produced the interactive comedy play “Aunt Biddy’s Wake” and is a stand-up comedy instructor at LaughterZone 101. Featuring special performances by Yumi Nagashima, Syd Bosel, Lisa Person, Katrina Bennett, Lydia Rickards, Monique Naicker-Bellamy, Alison Ogilvie, Marlene Swidzinski and Ericka Young.

Drink and Draw in the Gallery

What: This free adult event is for artists, illustrators, sketchers, doodlers and art lovers to gather in the Art Gallery space for a social art event. The evening begins with a live drawing demo by guest artist Sandeep Johal, followed by open drawing time to work on solo or collaborative drawings and network with other artists while listening to DJ Shamik spin some tunes. Short tours of the Pierre Vassura exhibition will be ongoing throughout the night upon request. Drawing materials provided. Open to doodlers of all skill levels.

The Arts Club’s Blind Date

What: From January 9 to 19, Rebecca Northan’s improv comedy Blind Date will be playing at Surrey Arts Centre. Viewers will get a chance to experience the exhilaration (and hilarity!) of new love as Mimi, the lead character of the show, goes on a blind date with a different man every night. There’s a catch though – her date is picked right out of the audience.

Lights at Lafarge Lake

What: Lights at Lafarge Lake is one of the largest free light displays in Metro Vancouver, and features more than 100,000 twinkling lights. The outdoor display wraps its way entirely around the lake, leading visitors on a 1.2-km loop through 10 themed zones. The display is located just steps from SkyTrain’s Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station, and the lights will remain on from dusk each night until 11 pm.

Marginal Consort

What: These four musicians come with enough instruments for an orchestra; some are acoustic, some are electronic, and quite a few are of the artists’ own invention. For three hours they make ambient, heavily manipulated music, far apart and fully independent of each other. It’s a sonic adventure, with the audience as liberated as the performers. Listeners are free to sit, lie down or move around as they see fit—in fact, changes in position are encouraged, because different positions in the space can bring radically different experiences.
