Metro Vancouver is experiencing a stretch of beautiful weather that has local residents daydreaming about the beach, but how long will it last?
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is forecasting temperatures in Vancouver to hover around 16°C for the rest of the work week and into the weekend.
However, inland temperatures are spiking to over 20°C on Thursday and Friday, and you may want to slap on some sunscreen as well.

The ECCC is calling for the UV Index to reach up to 5 or moderate on Thursday and Friday, when inland temperatures will reach 21°C and 20°C, respectively.
“The UV Index was developed to help Canadians protect themselves from the sun’s damaging UV (ultraviolet) rays,” said the lead federal department for a wide range of environmental issues.
“The higher the UV Index, the stronger the sun’s rays, and the greater the need to take sun safety precautions.”

“This warm spell is due to the ridge of high pressure over the Pacific Ocean. stretching into our area, giving us warm temps,” explained Bobby Sekhon, meteorologist with ECCC.
However, you’ll still need to keep some rain jackets nearby as rain is set to soon return to the Vancouver weather outlook.
“The ridge of high pressure weakens this weekend,” added Sekhon. “Early next week will see the development of an onshore flow. Moisture will be coming from the Pacific Ocean, entering our area.”

Daytime highs in Metro Vancouver are expected to range between 12°C and 14°C for the early part of next week, with overnight lows dipping down to 6°C on Tuesday night.
