Who says that Nick Jonas is the only music icon who gets to have all the fun in Vancouver? Canadian legend Alan Doyle was recently in town and took his fans on a tour of all his favourite local spots.

The Great Big Sea alum and Robin Hood star was in Vancouver in late March on his Already Dancing Tour.

Doyle greeted fans in a seven-minute-long video shared to social media, introducing the city as a haven for coffee lovers.

“One of the things that’s very challenging to do is to ask people in Vancouver where to go for coffee,” said Doyle while standing at the back of the Orpheum Theatre.

“It’s like asking someone from Dublin where to go for a pint or someone from Petty Harbour where to get fish and chips.”

Doyle and photographer Sandra-Lee Layden went on a walking tour of Vancouver before his concert, with the Juno nominee pointing out spots like Kafka’s In The Park, Revolver, and the Vancouver Public Library Central Branch.

“See up there, it’s an outdoor garden. A public garden. If we had time, we could go up there and drink your coffee.”

Doyle shouted out several local theatres as great venues for live music, including The Centre and Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

“It’s just loaded for entertainment spots in Vancouver,” Doyle said. “It’s a fantastic place to come for like an event weekend.”

Layden and Doyle stopped in at Nemesis to pick up coffee. The video also showed off the coffee shop’s delicious treats.

“So much good coffee in Vancouver, it’s fantastic,” he gushed.

The team behind Nemesis, which was named among the best coffee shops in the world, also recently opened Bam Bam, a new all-day concept that celebrates nostalgia with modern touches.

Doyle also visited the city’s oldest neighbourhood, showing off several sights like the Gastown Steam Clock and Bryan Adams’ Warehouse Studio, where he has recorded many times.

The Republic of Doyle alum also alerted fans to the fact that, “Arguably, the greatest city walk that you can do in the world is here,” referencing the famous seawall that is popular with locals and visitors.

Doyle ranked it alongside Bondi and Bronte beaches in Sydney, Australia, and North Head Trail in St. John’s. He was also wowed by the city’s green spaces.

“Vancouver’s got all kinds of little parks in the city. It’s just fantastic. It’s one of the best cities in the world.”
