Protests planned for Trump Tower Vancouver official opening on February 28

It could shape up to be a tumultuous Tuesday around the Trump Tower in downtown Vancouver on February 28.

That’s the day the Trump brothers – Eric and Donald Jr. – are scheduled to be in town to officially open the new West Georgia high-rise that bears their family’s name.

It’s also the day that protests against US President Donald Trump are planned.

Currently, two groups have organized protests outside the tower and are sharing them through Facebook.

The first is being held by the group Occupy Vancouver, who are dubbing their demonstration the “Trump Welcome Party,” which is set to start at 9 am.

The second is the “Resist 4 Peace Rally” which is at 4 pm, and takes place at Jack Poole Plaza.

“Coming together as a community we have decided to create a peaceful march surrounding such a negative name with as much love and peace as possible,” say resist 4 Peace organizers on Facebook. “Our plan is to gather as many people as possible to join us for this AMAZING March created by two women who believe in love over aggression.”

The new building has been a symbolic source of contention in Vancouver since Donald Trump ran for – and won – the US presidency, even though he and the family are only lending their name and hotel operating services to the tower’s developer and owner, Holborn Group.
