New year-round, non-stop flights from Vancouver to Sacramento

Dec 1 2017, 3:24 am

Air Canada has announced that it will commence a new flight service between Vancouver and Sacramento, the state capital city of California.

The flights will operate as a year-round, non-stop daily service starting on May 17, 2018.

Flights will depart Vancouver International Airport (YVR) at 8:55 am and arrive at Sacramento International Airport (SMF) at 11:05 am while return flights will depart SMF at 11:45 am and arrive at YVR at 1:57 pm.

The new service will use a 75-seat CRA-705 aircraft.

“We continue to strategically expand our already extensive North American year-round transborder network to offer the only services from Canada to Sacramento,” said Benjamin Smith, President of Passenger Airlines at Air Canada, in a statement.

“As the largest foreign carrier serving the U.S., our new non-stop flights will offer both business and leisure customers travelling between Sacramento and B.C. convenience, and we look forward as well to connecting customers from California’s capital city area onward through our extensive global network at our YVR transpacific hub on North America’s Best Airline as rated by Skytrax.”

It is anticipated the new service will create about 80 new jobs and contribute $5.8 million to BC’s GDP.

Numerous new major services and routes have been launched at YVR over the past few years, propelling the airport’s passenger numbers to new heights. In 2016, passenger numbers reached 22.3 million – up from 20.3 million in 2015, when YVR crossed the 20 million mark for the first time.

Rapid growth is expected to continue for the foreseeable future, with the airport likely to record an excess of 23 million passengers this year. Much of the growth is from Air Canada’s decision to strengthen YVR as its Trans-Pacific hub.
