Vancouver temperatures dropping as Juneuary rain makes a splash

The last weekend of June is upon us, and you may want to keep your umbrella close by as rain is dominating the Vancouver forecast.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is calling for rain and showers for the next seven days, from Friday, June 26, until Thursday, July 2.

According to ECCC meteorologist Matt Loney, the precipitation is caused by an upper disturbance from the Pacific Ocean, which has parked itself over the Pacific Northwest. And there’s no relief in sight.

“Juneuary gets thrown around as a colloquial term to cover upper disturbances from the North-East Pacific,” Loney told Daily Hive. “It tends to bring you back one season, so summer into spring or spring back into winter.

“That pattern has shown itself to be robust this late spring and early summer. The current upper disturbance will stretch into early next week, with the next coming in mid next week. And there are signs that another may drop after that.”

ECCC is forecasting temperatures to drop below seasonal averages as instability throughout the region continues.

“The seasonal average is 20°C for the daily max, and it looks like we will be below that,” added Loney.

“However, the overnight lows won’t cool off at night because the clouds will act as a blanket.”
