Vancouver has been ranked one of the most sustainable cities in the world by global travel publication, Lonely Planet.

“With forests, mountains and beaches all within reach, Vancouver has plenty of incentive to do its bit for the planet,” the publication states“From neighbourhood clean-up parties to shared gardens, community sits at the heart of many of Vancouver’s eco-friendly initiatives.”

The publication cites factors such as tree planting initiatives in the city, and the Zero Waste 2040 Single-Use Item Reduction Strategy, as reasons for Vancouver’s inclusion on the list. It also highlights attractions such as the Stanley Park Seawall and easy access to the outdoors.

The other cities to make the list include:

  • Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Portland, Oregon
  • Singapore
  • Lisbon, Portugal
  • Bengaluru, India
  • Ljubljana, Slovenia
