The Vegetarian Butcher is officially opening in Gastown

The Vegetarian Butcher has quietly soft-opened its second BC location in Vancouver.

This spot for meat alternatives for vegetarians is currently operating at 303 Abbott Street in Gastown. It will be celebrating its grand opening on January 16.

This concept was inspired by one of the business’s co-founders’ wives, who, when diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2016, had difficulty finding a plant-based grocer to support her goal of changing her diet to be veggie-focused.

The lack of vegetarian options in the market inspired the veg-centric butcher shop, which offers plant-based meat and cheese substitutes, fresh meals and deli items, and also has staff who are able to educate and help anyone curious with questions about plant-based eating.

Folks can find brands like Blacksheep Vegan Cheese and Vancouver-based names like Modern Meat, TMRW, Happy Veggie World, and Kula Kitchen to mention just a few.

The Vegetarian Butcher operates one other location in Kelowna and has plans for two new stores in Langley and Kamloops, set to open in early 2021.

Find this new addition to Gastown open daily from 10 am to 7 pm.
