Vancouver police track down unusual furry suspect near Commercial Drive

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) shared the results of an unusual mission it embarked on early Tuesday morning involving a black bear.
According to a post on X, at around 1 a.m. last Tuesday, Vancouver police officers from the department tracked down a “big, furry suspect.”
The department had received some calls reporting a black bear on the loose, and it found the suspect near Commercial Drive and Grandview Highway, an unusual place for a black bear.
Based on the description of events provided by the department, it sounds like there were some close calls with residents.
“Patrol officers located the bear, and the Emergency Response Team assisted when the bear was getting a little too close to people nearby,” VPD said.
VPD also got an assist.
“The BC Conservation Officer Service was called, while VPD officers contained the bear as it moved toward Hastings and Commercial,” VPD said.
Thankfully, the department shared a quick snippet of footage from tracking down the bear.

Thankfully, the situation was resolved without incident. Conservation officers were able to tranquillize the furry suspect and take it to North Vancouver.
“Nobody was hurt, the bear slept it off, and was released without charges,” VPD joked.
