10 Vancouver food events to check out this week, April 3 to 9

If you are among the many Vancouverites hungry for some fun ways to get out and eating (and drinking) in the next few days, here are 10 food events to check out this week, April 3 to 9, 2017.

1. El Santo‘s feature menu in support of Autism Awareness Month

New Westminster’s buzzy El Santo will be supporting Autism Awareness Month all April via a feature menu, from which proceeds will go to Canucks Autism Network (CAN). Guests can look forward to items such as BC foraged mushrooms, local octopus with a squid ink mole, Fraser Valley duck, with coffee baked beets and sesame Pipián, and heirloom blue corn sope with Johnstone Farms pork belly and local kale.

2. Poisson d’Avril menu at Provence Marinaside

For the ninth year, Provence Marinaside is celebrating all things fish, but have expanded it into a month-long opportunity to try some delicious fish dishes. The Yaletown restaurant has a prix fixe Poisson d’Avril Menu ($57) with two optional wine pairings – Canadian Wines for $30 ($18 for smaller pour) and Old World for $35 ($20 for smaller pour).

3. BETA5 Spring Pop-Up

Get ready to welcome in the sweetness of spring as local chocolatier and treat-maker BETA5 opens up their Cambie Village pop-up shop once again (just in time for Easter shopping). Look for goodies like Easter eggs, and chocolate rain clouds filled with peanut butter raindrops. They’ve added three new tea-infused flavours to their cream puff family: Mango Bubble Tea, Strawberry Jasmine, and Matcha. The pop-up shop will also soon have ice cream, ice cream sammies, and their ice cream socials.

4. Petits Gateaux; Madeleines, Canneles and Palmiers class with Tartine & Maple

Discover three very French tea-like treats. All three of the recipes will demonstrated while you enjoy wine or tea, and…you get to take a delicious box of treats home.

5. Food Art Music x Nemesis Coffee Dinner

These two popular food “families” are teaming up for an epic evening, featuring six courses and drink pairings. The food will be by Jacob Deacon-Evans of Nemesis Coffee and Mark Singson of Food Art Music Inc., with drinks by Satoshi Yonemori from Grapes and Soda.

When: Wednesday, April 5 from 7 to 10 pm

6. Brothers Grimm Tea at Notch8

Notch8’s setup in their Private Dining room for their special Brothers Grimm Afternoon Tea covers all the bases, from Red Riding Hood’s basket of breads and treats to the main event: Tiers of wooden log rounds are used to hold all the delectable goodies you love at a fancy tea-time, nestled on a “dirt” floor.

7. Always Sakura set menu at TWG Tea

If you’re up for a gastronomic experience like no other, the Always Sakura Set Tasting Menu at TWG Tea’s North American flagship boutique and tea salon is available from now until April 8. The spread includes beverages that represent company’s seasonal spring teas including Sakura! Sakura! Tea and an iced Green Beauty Tea.

8. BC Distilled

BC Distilled is back for its 4th annual festival celebrating regional, small batch, and local micro-distilleries. This year the event will feature samples from 34 distilleries based out of Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and West Coast, the Okanagan, Kootenays, and the Interior – along with some pretty stellar food pairings to go along with the craft spirits (like boozy doughnuts from Lucky’s…yum!).

9. Singletree Winery‘s Spring Release

This is your first chance to taste and buy Singletree’s 2016 ‘Siggy,’ their signature wine, their 2016 Rosé, and their new ‘Wild Siggy.’ The tasting room and picnic area will be open, and their will be case-lot sale pricing on library vintages. This is a family-friendly event, too.

10. Sunday Paella Series at Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar will once again conjure up the rustic flavours of Spain’s national dish with the return of the Sunday Paella Series. Taking place each Sunday through March and April, Executive Chef Alex Chen and team will serve up a three-course menu featuring Paella as the centrepiece of each communal, family-style feast. Other dishes featured during this meal include Young Beet Salad and Orange Crema Catalana.
