It’s time to celebrate spring the best way we know how – eating and drinking!

With so many amazing events to choose from, your calendar is sure to fill up quickly. From Jewish dumplings to oysters in Osoyoos – here are 13 food events to check out this April.

1. Sunday Paella Series at Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar will once again conjure up the rustic flavours of Spain’s national dish with the return of the Sunday Paella Series. Taking place each Sunday through March and April, Executive Chef Alex Chen and team will serve up a three-course menu featuring Paella as the centrepiece of each communal, family-style feast. Other dishes featured during this meal include Young Beet Salad and Orange Crema Catalana.

2. Brothers Grimm Afternoon Tea at Notch8

If you’ve ever wanted to be transported right into a fairy tale, you can do so by booking a table at Notch8 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, where they are doing a special Brothers Grimm Afternoon Tea. Notch8’s setup in their Private Dining room has Red Riding Hood’s basket of breads and tiers of wooden log rounds are used to hold delectable goodies.

3. Salary-men & Women Sake Party at B-Bin

In Japan, April is a time when young men and women start their school year or begin full-time jobs. This is an important cultural time synonymous with ceremonies or parties. To celebrate this time here in Vancouver, local Japanese restaurant B-Bin is throwing a Salary-men & Women Sake Party which includes a six-course meal (with dishes like a Japanese yam shooter) paired with four premium sakes. This celebration is hosted by Sake Lovers and sponsored by Vancouver-based sake brewers YK3, Axis Planning, and That’s Life Gourmet. Formal dress is required.

4. Tartine & Maple’s Cooking Series: “Freezer Dinner” #2

Learn how to make Easy Chili (including kid and vegetarian options), Phyllo Dough Mini Quiches, and Homemade Granola. Guests will get to taste everything made during the class along with a savoury welcome snack and a glass of white wine. Recipes and take-home food will also be provided.

5. The Chosen Food: Mantι, Börek, Baklava: Shabbat Dinner & Fresh Challah

The Jewish Museum and Archives of BC’s The Chosen Food dinner series was created so guests could eat their way through the traditional meals of BC’s multicultural Jewish Community. Each event in this series will showcase a regional style of Jewish cuisine, this one is all about Mantι, Börek, Baklava: Shabbat Dinner & Fresh Challah, and each dish will be presented by Vancouver-based artist Derya Akay in addition to female elders who will share an oral history of the memory and symbolism associated with each item.

When: Sunday, April 2 from 5 to 8 pm

6. Tartine & Maple’s Petits Gateaux; Madeleines, Canneles, and Palmiers

Learn how to make three French pastries including Madeleines – small génoise (or sponge cake) – Cannelés, and Palmiers. Guests will get to taste everything made during the class along with a savoury welcome snack and a glass of white wine. Recipes and take-home food will also be provided.

7. BC Distilled

BC Distilled is back for its 4th annual festival celebrating regional, small batch, and local micro-distilleries. This year the event will feature samples from 32 distilleries based out of Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and West Coast, the Okanagan, Kootenays, and the Interior. Some new additions to the BC Distilled lineup this year include Central City Brewing and DistillingShelter Point DistilleryMonashee SpiritsCrow’s Nest Distillery, and Stealth Distilleries.

8. Tartine & Maple’s Dinner & Demo: Easy Vegan for Everyone!

Learn how to make Avocado Hummus, Parsnip & Squash, Vegetable Tagine(slow-cooked root vegetables in Moroccan spices) along with your own Ras El Hanout spice blend, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes. Guests will get to taste everything made during the class along with a savoury welcome snack and a glass of white wine. Recipes and take-home food will also be provided.

9. Passover Feast at Mensch Jewish Delicatessen

This is the first of a series of ticketed “Dinner Services” at Mensch’s and it’s a can’t-miss. Guests at this dinner will enjoy a menu with Chicken Matzo Ball Soup, Borscht, Chopped Liver, Gefilte Fish, Tzimmes, Cabbage Rolls, Braised Brisket, Roasted Chicken and more. Wine is promised to “run like water” and beer will be provided by Faculty Brewing Co.

10. The Chosen Food: My Darling Dumpling: Traditional Jewish & Chinese Dumpling

The Jewish Museum and Archives of BC has partnered with the HUA Foundation to present this second evening in the The Chosen Food supper club series. Each event in this series will showcase a regional style of Jewish cuisine, this one is all about traditional Jewish and Chinese dumplings.

11. Osoyoos Oyster Festival

The sixth annual Osoyoos Oyster Festival returns to the South Okanagan from April 19 to 23. Featuring South Okanagan wines, ciders, beers, and spirits and of course an outstanding selection of oysters from across Canada. The five-day celebration of all things oysters consists of three big parties and a series of partner events. Check out the festival lineup and get planning!

12. Wine for Waves at the Four Season Vancouver

The annual Wine for Waves event will feature over two dozen wineries from the Naramata Bench Wineries Association. Fourth time partner the Naramata Bench Wineries Association has partnered with the Ocean Wise program to offer guests a taste of delicious wines and small bites along with the chance to meets some of B.C.’s top winemakers. All proceeds from the event support Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program.

13. Tartine & Maple’s Eclairs & Cream Puffs – Choux Pastry basics
