Vancouver Fire Rescue (VFRS) has a new four-legged friend to help out staff who may be suffering from “occupational stress, mental injury, or illness.”

Meet Lola, the trauma dog.

In a release, VFRS said studies have shown that almost half of emergency services personnel show “significant symptoms… consistent with one or more mental disorders.”

To help combat the issue, VFRS said it is “leading the way to provide training, treatment, and interventions for staff dealing with occupational stress.”

And that’s where Lola the golden retriever comes into play.

The pooch was officially welcomed as part of the VFRS team on Monday.
