2019 Harry Jerome International Track Classic

What: 2019 marks the 36th anniversary of the Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome International Track Classic. Since 1983, the event has provided an opportunity for top Canadians to compete against athletes from around the world. This one-day competition is an important step in meeting critical Olympic and World Championships qualifying standards.

Science World After Dark

What: Science World After Dark features all of your favourite activities just for adults. Watch a film on the world’s largest dome OMNIMAX screen, explore six permanent galleries, discover what’s new in the Feature Gallery, and wet your whistle with a cold beer or glass of wine. Then grab your favourite childhood dinner in Triple O’s and experience exciting live science shows at Centre Stage.

Mat Collective Free Yoga

What: Mat Collective’s 2019 outdoor summer yoga series features free classes at Kits Beach, on Main Street and in East Van throughout the week. In addition, there will be special events held throughout the summer.

When: Mondays to Fridays at Kits Beach, Tuesday to Saturday on Main Street, and Wednesdays in East Van

We Are the Body

What: Inspired by the life and faith of Richard Wurmbrand, We Are the Body follows the stories of Elsie, Micah and Richard, three prisoners of conscience confined in a Soviet jail in post-war Romania. As they communicate through the walls of their cells via Morse code, memories of the past and visions for the future provide temporary relief from the brutal reality of their existence, yet force them to question what they truly believe. An abridged version of Canadian playwright Andrew Kooman’s script, produced by Pacific Theatre apprentice Kira Fondse, and directed by Mikayla Wust. Presented in association with Pacific Theatre as part of the Stone’s Throw Festival Apprentice Series.

‘Looking, Not Seeing,’ a solo exhibition by William D. Higginson

What: If you’re looking for a night that’s sure to be thought-provoking and imaginative, look no further than a solo exhibition of William D. Higginson’s newest artwork. “William D. Higginson is one of North America’s leading modern Surrealists. Driven by his battle with cancer, his views on the corporate world, science and the future, his imaginative works are a unique interpretation of the everyday experiences of the 21st century; reflections and insight mixed with a sense of humour,” says a description Higginson sent to the Daily Hive.

World Refugee Day Fair

What: World Refugee Day Fair is presented by Multi-agency Partnership (MAP), whose members include United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), MOSAIC, the Vancouver Association for Survivors of Torture (VAST) and Settlement Orientation Services at Immigrant Services Society. There will be an information fair, a marketplace, panels, speeches, live music and more.
