Robson Square Ice Rink

What: The provincial government’s Robson Square Ice Rink is open for the 2018 and 2019 season. As per tradition, skating is free for all ages for those who bring their own skates. Those without skates can rent a pair on-site for a fee. An on-site concession stand will also serve warm drinks and snacks.

When: Now to February 28, 2019
Time: Sunday to Thursday from 9 am to 9 pm; Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 11 pm
Where: 800 Robson Street, Vancouver (Robson Street and Howe Street)
Cost: Free for all ages, if you bring your own skates (Skate rentals are $5, and rentals end 30 minutes before closing time)
Note: Helmets are mandatory for children 12 years and under. Robson Square Ice Rink accepts cash only

Unsung Heroes Festival at Blue Water Cafe

What: Blue Water Cafe has been concocting weird and wonderful culinary creations from the sea for its annual Unsung Heroes Festival for over a decade, and this year’s selection is no different. Now in its 15th year, Executive Chef Frank Pabst has created an array of delights not commonly found on many menus for the festival, which runs throughout the month until February 28.

What: Swedish singer, songwriter and record producer Robyn is on tour to promote her new album Honey.

Harry Potter Trivia VanCity

What: Harry Potter Trivia questions are laid out like a Hogwarts make-up exam, so it asks 10 questions from different subjects: five OWL level and five NEWT level. There will be some theme prizes like wands, time turners and Hogwarts letters, and the winning team will win a $50 bar tab. There’s also a few bonus prizes that play off the books and movies.

Time: Trivia starts around 9 pm.

Science World After Dark

What: Science World After Dark showcases their new exhibition, A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature. Nested within A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature is the Lower Mainland’s largest mirror maze. This visually stunning maze consists of repeating, mirrored triangles that create an infinite array of patterns that are beautiful to look at, but challenging to navigate. Beer, wine and refreshments will be available for purchase. Triple O’s will also be open until 9 pm. This is a 19+ event.

Afro Festival 2019

What: The Afro Festival is a celebration of the diversity of people with African ancestry and will feature an exhibition of the cultural scene that exists in Africa, the Caribbean, North America and larger diaspora. Enjoy free cultural food, performances by SinBirds, Kenyan Lewis, Diane Mutabaruka & Rabbit, and live DJ Giovanni Hosang. The event is a collaborative event between the UBC Black Student Union, UBC Africa Awareness Initiative, SFU Students of African and Caribbean Ancestry, UBC Africa Business Club, SFU African Students Association and UBC-SFU Afrocentrism Conference.
