Steveston Scarecrow Crawl

What: Throughout the month of October, Steveston Village in Richmond is being taken over by scarecrows for the annual Steveston Scarecrow Crawl. Dozens of scarecrows are the first point of contact outside many of the village’s merchants, and the best scarecrow will win a $1000 prize based on Richmond celebrity judges voting. Perfect for autumn selfies.

Luzia by Cirque Du Soleil

What: For the first time in British Columbia, guests will be invited to witness the imaginative and stunning production titled LUZIA, a waking dream of Mexico. Naturally, viewers can expect aerialists, trapeze artists, hoop diving, contortionists, jugglers, and even football freestylers, to name a few of the production’s members. The performance will take place at the redesigned white-an-gold Big Top at Concord Pacific Place from October 3 to November 24, 2019.

2019 International Theatresports Institute’s Conference and Festival

What: Vancouver TheatreSports is hosting the 2019 International Theatresports Institute Conference and Festival, featuring over 100 improv performers from 18 countries in 50 performances across three theatres on Granville Island. Highlights include The Toys Strike Back, by Norway’s Det Andre Teatret, the El Jaguar Fiesta Tour of Vancouver with masked Mexican luchador El Jaguar (Derek Flores, New Zealand) and OK Tinder – The International Edition.

The Try Guys Legends of the Internet Tour

The Try Guys/Live Nation

What: The Try Guys will be taking to the stage at The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts during their Legends of the Internet tour. Guests will join Keith Habersberger, Ned Fulmer, Zach Kornfeld, and Eugene Lee Yang. The group originally formed in 2014 while the four worked at BuzzFeed. In 2018, they launched their independent YouTube channel, which now has more than two billion views and 5.8 million subscribers.

The Try Guys have headlined the main stage at VidCon for the last two years and also produce their own audio podcast, The Trypod. Earlier this year, they released their first book, The Hidden Power of F*cking Up.

Improv Against Humanity: Halloween Hilarity

Grave Tales

What: Fort Langley’s annual Grave Tales takes place on select evenings between October 16 and November 3, 2019. Attendees will have their choice of either a two or three-hour program, in which local storytellers share eery stories, all while leading the group through the historic village at night. There’s also the option to stay overnight in Fort Langley’s oTENTiks. These “are approved on a case-by-case basis” for the 9 pm tours.

Harvestland

What: Harvest Haus is partnering with the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) to launch the largest harvest celebration in Canada: Harvestland. Visitors can expect rides, attractions, food, and entertainers, as well as the return of the original Harvest Haus – the 19+, high-energy Oktoberfest party.

Harvestland will boast dozens of attractions, including tractor rides, logger sports showcases, pumpkin carving, and theatrical entertainers. Guests can also explore the colourful Bavarian Village, a Woodland Labyrinth, and the interactive Kinder Farm.

NBA Canada Series Presented by Bell: LA Clippers vs. Dallas Mavericks

What: The annual food fest is returning for its 15th year of special menus, tasting plates, and expert pairings in the restaurants of one of Vancouver’s swankiest downtown neighbourhoods. Vancouver Area Independent Schools Fair 2019

What: The 9th Annual Vancouver Area Independent School Fair is a free event open to all students from grades 9 to 12 and their parents on Thursday, October 17 from 1:30 – 3:30pm at the WPGA Main Gym. This is an opportunity for students and parents to meet one-on-one with top US universities. In addition, Understanding Selective College Admission in the US and Understand the UC application process, are two excellent information sessions offered as part of the VAIS Fair on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Art Masters: Painting Competition

What: Art Masters is a painting competition presented by the Vancouver Visual Art Foundation. The theme is Day of the Dead, and the artists not only have one hour to create, but only 15 minutes prior to the start of painting they will receive a surprise supplies box of supplies they must incorporate. The audience decides the winner.

China Doll

What: China Doll is written and directed by Marjorie Chan, and tells the story of Su-Ling, trapped by tradition. Her grandmother is determined that she will marry well and bring prosperity to the two of them.
