The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is investigating the circumstances around the death of a child in Yaletown.
According to a release from the VPD, the incident occurred yesterday, on Remembrance Day.
VPD says the child was an eight-year-old girl who fell from a high-rise balcony in Yaletown on Tuesday afternoon. VPD informed Daily Hive that the balcony was on the 23rd floor and that the child fell all the way down to the seventh floor.
According to a VPD news release about the incident, officers were called to a residential building near Nelson Street and Expo Boulevard, just after 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 11, after the child fell from the upper balcony.
There are many high-rise residential buildings in the area.
First responders arrived on scene to provide emergency medical care. Tragically, the child succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
We asked the VPD if foul play had been ruled out, and the VPD responded that the circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated.
Detectives from the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section are now investigating the child’s death. Anyone with information relating to the child’s death is asked to call 604-717-2500.
