In another example of the City’s bureaucracy, an iconic mural at a Vancouver brewery is set to be taken down due to bylaws.
Yes, bylaws.
Storm Brewing, located at 310 Commercial Drive, shared an Instagram post about the City of Vancouver’s ruling on the mural.
“After 10 years of this colourful mural welcoming folks into Storm, we have been notified by the City that it is violating bylaws and must be removed.”
Many took to the comments of the post to ask what bylaws could be broken by this colourful mural.
“Where are we supposed to chug beer now, Kits?!” one person quipped.
Vancouver City Councillor Sarah Kirby-Yung picked up on the concern from the brewery and put out a pull on it via Twitter.
Do you think Vancouver should change its mural / signage rules to allow local businesses like @StormBrewingVan to have murals on their own premises that include their business name and an artistic depiction of what they offer?

The poll is unanimously in favour of allowing local businesses to have murals like the one at Storm Brewing.
The City of Vancouver responded to the outcry saying that it did not issue any tickets for the mural and that there are no plans to forcibly remove it.
Instead, the City claims it sent the property owner an educational letter informing them the mural was not in compliance and encouraged them to apply for a permit.
Over the next month, Storm is inviting folks to bring their pals and take one more photo or selfie “with this iconic part of our brewery’s history.”
“From wedding photos, engagement photos, birthday photos, and more — we appreciate every single person who’s posed here with family and friends.”
