A Vancouver sushi spot located in the West End that has gained quite a following has announced it is closing, but it isn’t the end of its story.
Sushi Aboard brought a fun bullet train/conveyor belt idea, referred to as “Kaitenzushi” in Japanese, to the saturated Vancouver sushi scene in 2020.
Located at 1047 Denman St., Sushi Aboard is closing that location on Sept. 7, but according to a recent Instagram post, the team is “hard at work” prepping a new location for its operations.
It says it was the first-of-its-kind bullet train sushi spot in the city.
“We’re just prepping for the next chapter,” Sushi Aboard shared.
“Make sure to keep following our page for progress updates, location reveals, and reopening details,” it said, adding, “We can’t wait to feed you all again soon!”
Sushi Aboard also issued a reminder that if folks want to visit its current location before it closes, it is closed every Monday and Tuesday.
“We want to send a massive thank you to our local West End community and every single customer who has walked through our doors over the years. Whether you’re a neighborhood regular or traveled across the city to dine with us, your support has meant the absolute world to us!”
The kid-friendly spot had a lot of fun marketing the establishment on social media. Google reviews for the restaurant are very positive, particularly from parents who say their kids loved it.
“My daughter was absolutely delighted and kept watching for the next train to come by,” one review states.

Vancouver used to have another conveyor belt sushi spot that some residents might remember. Tsunami Sushi was located on Robson Street and closed back around the late 2000s as the building was being redeveloped.
