TransLink's SeaBus ferry returns to regular service hours until late night

May 19 2020, 5:09 pm

The service hours for SeaBus have returned to normal, following a month of curtailed hours due to the drop in ridership demand earlier in the crisis.

TransLink says SeaBus is now operating until the late night hours. Between Monday and Saturday, the last sailings will leave Lonsdale Quay at 1 am and Waterfront Station at 1:22 am.

Operations on Sunday and holidays will now see the last sailing depart at 11:02 pm from Lonsdale Quay and 11:16 pm from Waterfront Station.

But the reduced frequencies of every 30 minutes will remain until further notice. The public transit authority says they are monitoring ridership and will adjust service over the summer if needed.

TransLink made severe service cuts to SeaBus on April 22 by ending service hours before 8 pm each day. This was in addition to earlier changes that eliminated peak hour frequencies.

Over the same week, major service cuts were also made to buses, SkyTrain, and the West Coast Express.

TransLink was also planning to layoff 1,500 employees and enact a sweeping round of deep bus route cancellations and frequency reductions on May 18, but this was cancelled with the support of the provincial government, announced on May 8.

Fare collection and front-door boarding on buses resumes on June 1.
