Tickets to see Messi play Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place reselling for hundreds of dollars

Ticket prices to potentially see Lionel Messi play the Vancouver Whitecaps have jumped rapidly.

The Whitecaps are in the CONCACAF Champions Cup semi-finals against Inter Miami CF and Messi. The first leg takes place at BC Place on April 24, and there’s clearly massive demand from local soccer fans to see the Argentinian superstar live and in person.

Tickets went on sale to the general public at noon on Friday. The arena was sold out before 1 p.m., and the prices in the resale market jumped massively.

While tickets started at $47 on the standard sale, you will not find any at that price right now.

The cheapest available tickets as of writing cost $224 per seat. That’s to sit in section 406, which is located in BC Place’s upper bowl in the corner of the pitch. Those are not premium seats but are still going for well over $200 each.

The cheapest seats in the lower bowl were closer to $300 each. Those cost $291 each for a pair and would get you behind one of the nets in section 226.

Ticket prices for last year’s contest regular season MLS match against Miami jumped to a similar level. Messi then pulled out of the game, sending the secondary market into a freefall.

While tickets to such an important game were always going to be more expensive, the Messi factor takes everything to the next level. For comparison, you can purchase a ticket to the Whitecaps’ next MLS game against Austin FC for just $32.

There is no guarantee that Messi will show up this time, but it’s much more likely. This match carries much more weight than a regular season MLS game, and there is a trophy on the line. However, Miami does host Dallas in MLS, and they play just three days after the game at BC Place. If Messi decides the travel is too much, there’s a chance he will skip the first leg in Vancouver.

After the two teams face at BC Place, there will be a second leg in Miami. The winner will move on to the final, where a spot in the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup and 2029 FIFA Club World Cup is on the line.
