A.R.C. Gloria Tall Ship Tours 2017 in North Vancouver

  • What: The A.R.C. Gloria, a sailing vessel owned and operated by the Colombian Navy, has made its return to Vancouver.  The public will be able to board and tour the A.R.C. Gloria during select times on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. No passes are required. A.R.C. Gloria’s visit also coincides with Sunday’s Battle of the Atlantic Memorial Parade at the Sailors’ Memorial at Waterfront Park in North Vancouver. The parade is scheduled from 10 to 11:30 am.

Free Health & Sports Expo

  • What:  The Health & Sports Expo is a free three-day event to kick off BMO Vancouver Marathon week! Checkout all the latest health and sports products at Vancouver Convention Centre West, plus chances to win amazing prizes including Whitecaps tickets from BMO, Seahawks Training Camp VIP passes, Saucony Shoes, Air France flights to Paris and more. Open to the general public.

Free Comic Book Day

  • What: Best described as Christmas for comic book fans, the annual event sees stores give away a selection of 50 free comics ranging from Animal Jam to Zelda and just about everything else in-between. In Vancouver, a number of shops will be celebrating with free books, special events, and guest appearances by creators.

Casa De Amigo – A Cinco De Mayo Celebration

  • What: Get ready for a fiesta as the largest Cinco de Mayo party in Vancouver returns to Robson Square. Feast on gourmet tacos, ceviche, churros, and other handheld Mexican street-style foods at four stations from the teams from Savoury Chef and Buena Onda. The event is also fully licensed and there will be a wide array of signature Mezcal and Tequila cocktails along with your favourite Mexican cervezas to sample, all available in the beverage garden. And no fiesta is complete without some Luchador wrestling, Mariachi bands, and traditional folk dancers.

William So CBCF Charity Concert

  • What: William So will perform many of his smash hits from his over 30 years in the music industry and he will take the audience down memory lane during his charity concert. Net proceeds will be contributed to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Trout Lake Farmers’ Market

  • What: The market where it all began. Come meet your friends and neighbours, pick up supplies for a picnic by the lake, or just rub shoulders with farmers who care about the future of the land as much as the food they put on your plate.

Kentucky Derby Party at the Granville Room

  • What: Head to the Granville Room on May 6 for their first annual Kentucky Derby Party. This event will feature a complimentary bourbon sampling and feature derby brunch menu. Mint Juleps will also be on special for $7. Doors open at 1 pm and the race begins at 3 pm.

Playland Season Opening

  • What: Playland officially opens for the season on May 6 at 10 am. And alongside all their favourite attractions, this year visitors will even have the opportunity to enjoy three all-new rides. In total there are 35 rides and attractions to enjoy, 14 of which offer an extreme experience for those who dare to ride them.
  • Where: Playland at the PNE – Hastings Street just off Highway #1 West – Exit #26
  • When: Open on weekends until June 25 when it will open up during the week.

BMO Vancouver Marathon

  • What: The BMO Vancouver Marathon has races for all runner types, including a new Marathon Relay with race distances between 5 km and 13 km, a separate 8 km race, Half Marathon, and Vancouver’s only marathon.

VAM Symphony Orchestra: A John Williams Tribute

  • What: Cinema meets concert hall as the VAM Symphony Orchestra, bolstered by the forces of guest ensemble VAM Intermediate Symphony, presents the popular film music of John Williams. In It Together: An Emergency Preparedness Week Event

Dead Man Walking – Vancouver Opera

  • What: Modern opera classic Dead Man Walking is part of Vancouver Opera’s inaugural festival, along with traditional favourites Otello and The Marriage of FigaroDead Man Walking is considered the most-produced 21st Century opera, and is based on a popular movie and novel of the same name. Canadian bass-baritone Daniel Okulitch will take the role of a convicted murderer who is befriended by a Catholic nun (mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges).

  • What: Gastown’s Roden Gray will be hosting a shop-in-shop pop-up this weekend for The Weeknd’s StarBoy 2.5 merchandise. The limited-edition collection features Starboy T-shirts, long-sleeved tees, hoodies, denim jackets, bombers, and hats. Prices range from $28 to $295. The products are limited and the Vancouver shop is just one of eight exclusive shops that will be popping up across North America this weekend, with each location stocking city-specific exclusives.

Walk So Kids Can Talk Presented by BMO

  • What: Kids Help Phone is a free, anonymous service that is available to kids 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing helpful information and a listening ear. You can show your support for Kids Help Phone this May by taking part in the Walk So Kids Can Talk five kilometre walk to support children’s mental health.
