These are common symptoms which coexist in patients with chronic pain and can be challenging to overcome using traditional pharmaceutical agents which are usually single focused to one symptom or condition,” says Dr. Caroline MacCallum, Internal Medicine specialist with expertise in complex pain and cannabinoid medicine, practicing at GreenLeaf Medical Clinic.
“This frequently results in polypharmacy and a burden of adverse side effects (“brain fog”, fatigue, constipation etc). In turn, more prescriptions may be required to counteract the side effects, which further compounds the problem and have a negative impact on quality of life. In my experience, cannabis has been better tolerated by my patients, with fewer and milder side effects in comparison to the “equivalent” pharmaceutical choice for that medical condition.”
