Three-time Canadian Olympic swimmer Brent Hayden stopped by The Rise set to chat with hosts Ryan Sullivan and Jay DeMerit this week.
Brent talked to us about his journey from his childhood all the way to the podium. His overall message couldn’t have been clearer in how he learned from every single stroke, meet and loss.
He is a huge advocate for finding that silver lining in every loss along the way so that you can build yourself up even better for the next fight. Speaking of which, he also took us behind the scenes at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens. It was so traumatic that it had him contemplating quitting the sport on his return to Canada.
His perseverance kept him in the race though and his desire to compete, grow stronger and win shone through like you wouldn’t believe. His story didn’t end after his final Olympic medal though. In fact, he and his wife continue supporting the sport and aspiring Olympians through their new clothing line Astra Athletica.
The goal of this show is to help young athletes stay mentally and physically primed for their battle to play at the highest level. Our guest next week knows about that battle all too well. The Rise of former Vancouver Canucks forward and long-time NHL’er Kyle Wellwood is up next. You won’t want to miss it!
