Family-run Vancouver bakery closes after 20 years, hopes to relocate

We hate to see it, but another longstanding Vancouver bakery has closed its doors.

Sweet E’s shared online that it closed its doors on June 15.

“Our lease is up and the new landlord is not renewing; sadly, we have to go,” said the bakery.

The bakery was run by sisters Eleanor, Theresa, and Kathleen Tsang, who grew up on the West Coast and created baked goods inspired by North American, European, and Asian traditions.

On the menu, you could find a variety of tarts, cookies, cakes, and pies.

“Kerrisdale has been Sweet E’s home since 2005. We’ve made so many friends, laughing and crying with you as we all weathered the ups and downs of the last 20 years,” added the bakery.

However, it sounds like this won’t be a permanent goodbye. The bakery shared that this closure will be temporary while they search for a new home.

The bakery encouraged customers to follow them on Instagram to stay posted on what’s next.

Many people took to the comments of the closure announcement to share how much Sweet E’s will be missed.

“Your pavlova is the GOAT and summer ā€˜25 will not be the same without it!! 😭 Enjoy a much deserved break but hopefully not too long haha!” shared one person.

“Thank you for being a wonderful part of the Kerrisdale community for all of these years. It won’t be the same without you. Your cakes have been a special part of family celebrations for years. I feel so lucky that I was able to get a pavlova for the first time today for Fathers Day. We loved it and really regret not trying it until now. Looking forward to hearing when you open a new location,” said another.

“Thank you for the many, many sweet treats that graced our family celebrations and gatherings, as well as the studio events, for the past two decades. Can’t wait for the next chapter! Rest up, and we’ll be waiting when you’re ready to resume. Sending love and hugs,” added a third,
