If you’re in or around the Stanley Park area of Vancouver this weekend and see or hear anything unusual, like the sound of guns being fired, don’t fret, as it’s likely related to a scheduled operation.
The operation is taking place on Deadman’s Island at the HMCS Discovery Naval Base.
The operation near Stanley Park will involve guns, but only blank rounds will be fired. Regardless, these firearms will still produce some noise.
“The public may hear sounds from the firing of blank ammunition throughout the duration of the exercise,” HMCS says.

While HMCS hasn’t provided a specific time, the operation is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 31, during the day.
“The training, taking place within the confines of HMCS Discovery on Deadman Island in Stanley Park, is part of a continuing effort to develop and maintain the unit’s security operations capabilities in support of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Armed Forces,” HMCS said on social media.
Still, despite this training exercise, you never know what might happen. If you notice anything suspicious or cause for concern, contact law enforcement.
The Vancouver Park Board is also warning folks to expect some noise.
