Why you might see Canadian Armed Forces with 'small arms weapons' in Vancouver this weekend

If you’re planning on enjoying the long weekend Vancouver, you might spot Canadian Armed Forces members around one specific neighbourhood in the city.
According to the Department of National Defence, the Canadian Army Reserve personnel from the 15th Field Artillery Regiment are conducting urban operations training in the former Molson Coors Brewery site located on the south end of the Burrard Street Bridge. Training operations will take place between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.

The brewery shut down its Vancouver operations in 2017 and relocated to Chilliwack.
“During this period, members of the public may see uniformed military personnel carrying small arms weapons in the vicinity of the formerĀ Molson Brewery site and Seaforth Armoury on Burrard Street,” stated the Department of National Defence.
The training is being conducted to continue skills-building exercises for the Canadian Army Reserve in “planning and preparation” for future urban operations.
“Blank ammunition will be used, and small arms fire may be audible in the area during the day.”
The department added that no live ammunition will be present at any time during the operation.
Measures will also be taken to minimize any inconvenience in the area.
