How leaving his Vancouver apartment led John Cena to love

Undisputed WWE champion John Cena recently revealed how he found love in Vancouver, and all it took was deciding to leave his apartment.
The revelation came during a conversation with Stephanie McMahon on a show she hosts, called Stephanie’s Places.
In her sit-down chat with Cena, McMahon had a simple question for the man that no one can see. The caption on a TikTok video of a snippet of their conversation reads, “Does anything really happen by accident?”
McMahon asked, “How did you meet your wife?”
While the video is only 1:40 long, Cena was able to cram a lot of information about how he met his eventual wife.
“This goes in line with kind of my whole life. By accident,” Cena began.
Cena revealed that he was in Vancouver shooting a movie, Playing with Fire, during the Super Bowl about six years ago. (That movie came out in 2019.)
“Patriots are playing, and I didn’t want to leave my apartment in Vancouver. I just got there, starting to film a movie.”
He said he didn’t want to leave his apartment because he didn’t want to jinx the team.
“A friend of mine convinced me to go out to a hole in the wall. I got to watch the game. In walks a group of four, and I can’t take my eyes off of Shay.”
He’s referring to Shay Cena, his now wife.
He added that he was sitting fairly close to his table, and his eyes kept moving down from the television to Shay.
“My team is winning and I don’t give a f**k.”
Believe it or not, this multimillionaire who was the face of the WWE for years — and is once again — said he didn’t have the bravery to break the ice.
“Her friend comes up and was like, ‘Hey, can I have a picture with you?'”
Cena responded yes, but only if he could get a picture with Shay. He was also able to snag her number, and he said he didn’t even take 10 steps out of the bar before he stopped in a back alley in Vancouver to communicate with her. They met up the following week, spending several hours together at the same Vancouver bar where they had met, and, as they say, the rest is history.
“I met her by accident. I always just let life deal me the cards, and then knowing this could be something, it’s time to push the chips in.”
