Say it ain't snow! Special weather statement issued for parts of BC

Oct 23 2023, 6:03 pm

A special weather statement has been issued for parts of BC, including the Trans Canada Highway, as a slow-moving arctic front will bring the first snow of the season to these parts.

Environment and Climate Canada says that “early season snowfall” will fall until Tuesday afternoon, with an estimated 5 to 10 cm expected for Rogers Pass, Yoho Park – Kootenay Park and Elk Valley. Golden, Revelstoke, and Invermere will also see flakes fly over the next 24 hours and motorists taking Highway 1 are advised to be prepared for poor visibility in some sections.

The Coquihalla Highway, between Merritt and Kamloops, is also expected to see about 5 to 10 cm late Monday through tonight. Further south, Highway 3 is also under a weather statement between Hope and Princeton.

Our neighbours are going to be seeing a lot more of the white stuff this week, with a warning in effect for a large swath of Alberta, including Calgary, and some 15 cm of snow predicted.

And while it’s not expected to snow in Vancouver anytime soon, Environment and Climate Change Canada does predict the overnight lows on Thursday and Friday to hit zero, meaning it’s unfortunately time to get the scrappers out of storage for your early morning commute.
