Simit Bakery's new location just opened and it's every bagel lovers dream

Craving a bagel? Well, you’re in luck. Simit Bakery just opened up its third location and we couldn’t be more excited.

The spot is best known for its namesake, the simit, which are Turkish bagels that are crispy on the outside with a light and delicate interior.

The recipe for these bagels is at least 600 years old and dates back to the Anatolian era of the Ottoman Empire.

“The love affair with the simit extends to the 1500s when it was first made in palace kitchens during the time of Suleiman the Magnificent,” Simit Bakery’s website reads.

“At that time, the flour storages in the palace were called simithane (simit house), while the sultanā€™s bakery was called the Simit Bakery. Simit was considered back in the time of the sultans to be a valuable and luxurious food item. During the month of Ramadan, the sultan would provide iftar (break-fast meal) for those who are fasting, and as a gift, give simit to the soldiers on guard as a token of his appreciation. As such, the simit was classified as a valuable offering in Turkish culture.”

While the bakery might be best known for these historic Turkish bagels, it offers plenty more for customers to enjoy.

Simit Bakery serves great breakfast options that have our mouths watering just thinking about them.

The sujuk and egg immediately caught our eye. This dish features two sunny-side-up eggs with Turkish sausage served with a side of simit.

The manti, aka Turkish dumplings served with garlic yogurt and spices, also look delicious.

You can also order sandwiches, which are served on simit.

The Smyrna comes with parma ham, hummus, tomato, and arugula. But this spot offers plenty of other options, including a vegan sandwich with vegan cheese, tomato, lettuce, and cucumber.
