With a huge dump of snow Sunday, and more expected to hit the region today, many schools – including post-secondary institutions – are closed because of the winter-like conditions.

One campus that has remained open today however, is Simon Fraser University in Burnaby.
All SFU campuses remain open. Monitor Twitter and https://t.co/AKEKCE5jx5 for updates and follow @TransLink for transit alerts. pic.twitter.com/iZNyAiCKQq

Now, in case you needed a quick refresher, Simon Fraser University is located on top of Burnaby Mountain in Burnaby.
Yes, we said on top of a mountain – with hills and everything.
So with transit a mess and with drivers right across the region dealing with significant snow on their commute, the news that SFU had decided to keep its doors open wasn’t well-received by those who attend the campus.
Just curious. How is translink going to handle the huge amount of students. Also was student safety considered in any way. like not caring do students is what you’re known for you know that right?

This is wrong. SFU needs to stop shirking responsibility by saying “Oh, but @TransLink said the buses and trains are working!”. Roads are a mess (no plows, lack of winter tires), transit is severely delayed, and not every student uses/can use transit.

Wrong decision. I hope you know that other locations got more snow (e.g. Surrey and Delta). There are major delays on the sky train. Most people take the 145 but how to we get there with the delays.

Ridiculous! Careless decision!
— Amar (@akhaira1999) February 11, 2019
It seems like SFU doesn’t value the safety of students who are commuting. Road conditions are still poor in Surrey.
— Starr ⭐️ (@Starr_NucksFan) February 11, 2019
You do not care about student safety. Do not expect alumna to recommend your institution when we graduate. You have such a disregard for your students it is almost astounding.

Pleas address how @SFU and @TransLink will be dealing with the hundreds of people who will be stuck on Burnaby mountain due to the road conditions and extreme delays of busses that don’t have snow tires!

…. the skytrain isn’t even running from Columbia to Lougheed.. don’t expect me to come to school .. not tryna get stuck up on the mountain when it’s starts snowing again lol

Poor decision

excited for my five-hour commute home when we get stuck on the mountain thanks guys!!!

Wow thanks SFU you know we all have the luxury of living on campus and don’t have to… you know… travel up a mountain or anything.

Bc Environment: issues snow warning for afternoon. SFU: let’s keep the campus open!

It’s a damn shame how little consideration SFU has for our safety.

Do I have to remind you that the school is on a MOUNTAIN
