A 22-year-old Lower Mainland woman who was visiting friends on Vancouver Island was sexually assaulted at knifepoint this weekend.

Saanich Police say the attacker entered her friend’s unlocked home around 2 am Sunday morning and brandished a knife during the assault.

It happened at a home in the 3900-block of Wolf Street in the Gordon Head area.

The victim was not physically injured and is being supported by friends and Victim Services, according to law enforcement.

The crime is now being actively investigated by detectives and officers with the Forensic Identification team.

“Although police do not feel that the public is in danger, we want to remind everyone to properly secure their homes when they are away and prior to going to bed,” said Sgt. Julie Fast, in a statement sent to media.

The suspect is described as tall with short blonde hair and an athletic build. He is described as athletic looking and was wearing dark pants and a dark long sleeve shirt, and possibly glasses.

Sgt. Fast described the crime as “very serious and equally uncommon crime for our area.”
