Speed a factor in fiery crash that killed driver in Coquitlam Monday morning

One person has died following an early morning crash in Coquitlam.

According to Coquitlam RCMP, emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle crash on Lougheed Highway at approximately 1 am on Monday morning.

Police located a severally damaged car that hit a traffic pole. At the time, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The driver was pronounced dead on scene and police say speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Westbound traffic on Lougheed Highway between Blue Mountain and Alderson Avenue was closed following the crash. Police expect the scene to be cleared by 7 am.

The BC Coroner Service is assisting in identifying the victim.
