'Time to hang up our aprons': Metro Vancouver restaurant shares heartfelt goodbye
After five years of operating in Surrey, Ruex Cafe and Bar has made the unfortunate announcement that it will be closing its doors.
“What started as a dream became so much more than a cafe. It became a place filled with friendships, celebrations, laughter, and countless memories. None of it would have been possible without the unwavering support of our community,” wrote Ruex in a post that has since garnered over a thousand likes.

Ruex is an Australian-inspired brunch restaurant situated on the corner of King George and Fraser Highway that brought Melbourne mid-morning meal vibes to Metro Vancouver. Some popular items here included the Pork Belly Eggs Benedict, Biscoff French Toast, and a Bruschetta Avocado Toast with chilli ricotta, nut-free pesto-marinated tomatoes, and crispy basil.
“While it’s never easy to say goodbye to something we’ve poured our hearts into, we’re excited to embrace whatever comes next. It’s time to hang up our aprons, switch off the coffee machine one last time, and begin a new adventure,” added the restaurant.
Ruex then went on to thank its staff, friends, family, partners, and all the guests who walked through its doors.
“Thank you for believing in us, supporting us, and giving us some of the most meaningful years of our lives. Ruex will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we will forever be grateful to have shared this journey with you,” concluded the restaurant.

Many people took to the comments to share how much they would miss the Surrey brunch destination.
“Ruex will be dearly missed, it was a staple for Surrey. Thank you for everything,” said one Instagram user.
“End of an era ā¤ļø I am excited for the next chapter for you! Itās going to be epic,” added another.
“Itās an honour to have enjoyed the first ever deliciously & aesthetically pleasing restaurant in my city, inspired by Australia, fr šš½ thank,” shared a third.
Ruex’s final day of operation will be Friday, July 31.
