Man allegedly steals, crashes van from Richmond worksite (VIDEO)

A man was arrested in Richmond Thursday for allegedly stealing a van from a Richmond worksite.

Video captured from the scene shows the suspect driving the van down the street only to crash it into the back of a nearby tractor trailer. The van ends up in the ditch, and another man grabs a piece of wood from inside the van to push the suspect out of the driver’s seat.

The video ends with the suspect curled up in the grass beside the van, and workers from the site calling police.

The theft occurred just before noon in the 8000 block of Spires Gate in central Richmond, according to an RCMP news release.

The 48-year-old suspect was transported to hospital to treat his injuries and then released from custody while investigators gather more information.

No charges have been laid yet.
