'More than a grocer': Metro Vancouver market to close after 30+ years and people are upset

The Burnaby Heights Business Improvement Association recently shared the unfortunate news that Red Apple Market, a local staple, would be closing its doors later this week.
“Red Apple Market was more than a grocer. It was a community member, where staff and management lived nearby, and they knew their clientele and always greeted you with a warm smile,” shared the Burnaby Heights BIA on Instagram.

Red Apple has been operating in Burnaby Heights for over 30 years, offering fresh produce and international products.
“When you shopped at Red Apple, you never knew who you would bump into and have conversations with next to the cucumbers,” added the BIA. “Thousands of customers visited them each week, bringing vibrancy and liveliness to our sidewalks and more shoppers to support fellow businesses.”
“The friendly people and their special business ā they will both be missed,” concluded Burnaby Heights.

Many took to the comments of the post to share how much they would miss the grocer.
“Been shopping there for 30 years, sad to see it close,” wrote one user.
“Greedy landlords driving them out with sky-high rental renewal. Soon, the Heights may become an ocean of dentist offices. Very sad to see one of our family’s go-to places close,” added another.
“Iām still crying,” said a third.
An exact closing date was not provided, but the BIA said Red Apple would be closing its doors sometime this week.
