One in five Canadians tuned into the Toronto Raptors’ Game 1 NBA Finals win against the Golden State Warriors Thursday night.
According to Sportsnet, Thursday’s broadcast reached 7.4 million Canadians and attracted an average audience of 3.3 million viewers.
This makes for the largest audience ever for an NBA game in Canada.
Sportsnet says audience levels peaked at 4.1 million viewers at 11:35 pm ET / 8:35 pm PT, around the time the Raptors had claimed the win.
Thursday night’s victory trumped the Raptors’ broadcast record set just last week, during the May 25 Eastern Conference Final against the Bucks (3.1 average viewers), as well as Kawhi Leonard’s buzzer-beater game on May 12 during Game 7 against the 76ers.
