For 25 years, Potluck Café Society has been creating jobs and opportunities for individuals in the Downtown Eastside, while also providing warm meals to those in need. Now, the caterer is seeking community support after losing multiple major catering contracts.

Originally founded in 2001, Potluck is a highly respected social enterprise that helps end the cycle of poverty in the Downtown Eastside community and addresses the needs of its most nutritionally vulnerable residents through solutions that promote employment and nutrition.

It runs initiatives like its meal program, which provides nutritious, chef-prepared meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity, as well as a weather relief beverage service that offers warm drinks and hydration to the unhoused and vulnerable, providing comfort and care when it’s needed most.

However, Potluck is now seeking community support to keep it alive, hoping to raise $100,000 by Oct. 15 to maintain operations and continue its vital meal programs.

“Potluck Café Society is in crisis,” the society shared. “Rising food costs, living wages, tough market conditions, and the loss of two major contracts threaten our ability to keep serving meals and creating jobs.”

So, the team has launched the Save Potluck campaign and is seeking donations from the community.

“The funds will bridge this crisis, protect jobs for marginalized workers, and ensure our meal program continues to serve those who need it most,” said Potluck.

“Your support means someone gets a fair chance at work. It means meals on the table for a community that needs them most. And it means Potluck can continue doing what it has done for 25 years.”
