Pizza Coming Soon has officially opened in Chinatown

Pizza Coming Soon has officially opened in Vancouver.

You’ll probably find the name confusing, as there’s not a single ‘za on the menu here, but the vibe of the new Chinatown concept is pretty straight forward.

In other words, sitting in this vibrant, psychedelic dining room is just as chill as it looks.

This spot aims to be an unpretentious space for diners to come hang out and just simply enjoy Japanese-inspired snacks and highballs, rice bowls, natural BC wines, and good service.

The new 179 E Pender Street restaurant inherited some existing interior features such as booths and light fixtures from its predecessors, like New Mitzie’s Restaurant to name just one.

Concepts that have taken over this address have changed over time, but the spirit of its previous tenants have been maintained in some ways, which really makes the Pizza Coming Soon space a cool one to be in.

Before you fill your gut with this restaurant’s Blooming Onion,  you’ll feast your eyes on the punchy decor in this spot, like the Kit-Cat Klocks complete with oscillating tails. There’s a lot to look at.

But seriously, the Blooming Onion is a must-try. It arrives with a side of tangy Yuzu Dill Mayo and is just naturally a crowd-pleaser.

Why? Because it’s photogenic as hell and where else can you sit down and eat this fair favourite dish in Vancouver?

There are some delightful, non-fried veggie-centric dishes up for order also, like house gomae and tomato carpaccio. Both of these would serve as great sides with one of two (or both) items under the “Bigger Things” section of the menu.

These offerings include the Vegetable Yakisoba and the Periyaki Chicken, a dish described a Peri-Peri meets Teriyaki.

The chicken is marinated for three days and the sauces are made in-house. It’s a fantastic share plate and a must-try morsel available as a half or whole bird.

For seafood, diners can expect Tuna Crudo, Miso Cod, Tuna Spring Rolls, and Yuzu Steamed Clams.

The aforementioned Blooming Onion falls under the menu’s “Fries & Wings & Other Things” section which is pretty self-explanatory.

For wings, there’s hot, garlic teriyaki, curry, and salt and pepper flavours alongside a cauliflower variety as well.

It’s worth noting this eatery isn’t just slinging your average highballs. Case in point: The Oolong-Hai made with shochu, lemon cordial, and Honey Orchard Oolong.

The drink menu here also offers a small selection of sake, draft beer, bubbles, and non-alcoholic beverages.
