It seems Oprah Winfrey has an affinity for the Pacific Northwest to the extent that she is now a property owner in the area.
The American media mogul, actress, and philanthropist has bought a USD$8.3-million (CAD$10.7-million) estate on Orcas Island, the largest island on the San Juan Islands archipelago in Washington State, according to a report by Variety.

The island is roughly 26 kms south of White Rock and 20 kms northeast of Victoria, and Winfrey’s private compound – called the Madroneagle Estate – overlooking the island’s East Sound has a sprawling size of 43 acres and about 3,000 ft of west-facing shoreline.
The 2007-built main house on the property has a floor area of 7,303 sq. ft. containing four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and two half bathrooms. It features a faux-rustic, cabin-like interior with reclaimed wood, stone and iron work, and wooden floorboards from Chicago’s old Sears’ building.
Other spaces within the main home include super-sized kitchen with a large centre island and built-in pizza oven, a library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, a games room, a large home office, and a wine cellar with a tasting room.
As for the 1980s-built contemporary guesthouse – the Gallery House – its large floor area of 2,948 sq. ft. is suitable for Winfrey’s large traveling entourage. Perched high above a cliff, the guesthouse on its own has four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
And in addition to the main house and guesthouse, the estate has a barn-like house structure that is used as a woodworking studio, yoga studio, and gym. The property also consists of outdoor amenities such as a sauna, Asian garden, private hiking trails, a pond and stream, and over half a mile of pebble-stone beaches.
Forbes‘ latest estimate pegs Winfrey’s net worth at USD$3.1 billion. She has homes in California, New Jersey, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, and Hawaii, where she is the owner of about 1,000 acres on Maui.
Her last known visit to Vancouver was in October 2017 for the David Foster Foundation’s 30th Anniversary Miracle Concert at Rogers Arena.
