The BC Prosecution Service has approved charges against a Vancouver man following a fatal stabbing that occurred last weekend.

The incident occurred on Saturday, November 14 at approximately 9 am, near East 57th Avenue and Prince Edward Street.

Several witnesses provided police officers with detailed descriptions of the suspect, who was arrested a block away from the crime scene.

The victim, 34-year-old Damien Franklin Leung, was rushed to the hospital but later passed away.

30-year-old John Huang has been charged with second-degree murder.

“Investigators identified a suspect very early in the investigation,” Constable Tania Visintin, VPD Spokesperson says in an emailed statement.

“Although charges have been approved, homicide detectives are continuing to gather more evidence to present the best package to Crown counsel.”

This is Vancouver’s 16th homicide of 2020. Huang remains in custody until his next court appearance.
